Hello and welcome to my blog series — the NYC Driver Behavior Analysis Project! We will explore the nuances and complexities of business intelligence by depicting a real-world scenario.

Personal Introduction and Project Genesis

Welcome! I’m Javier, a data enthusiast with extensive analytics experience across the Healthcare, Banking, and Footwear/Manufacturing industries.

My passion for data ignited during my junior year of college. Since then, I’ve been diving into the ever-evolving world of data technologies.

In the beginning of 2024, I decided to dedicate myself to deepening my understanding of Data Engineering. It’s been an exhilarating journey, full of learning and growth, and the adventure is just getting better.

It is my personal mission to demystify the complex processes behind data work. I’ll guide you through the lifecycle of a data product. We set the stage against the vibrant backdrop of New York City’s insurance sector.

Why This Project?

My motivation for initiating this project is threefold:

Skill Enhancement: I aim to polish my data engineering skills, diving deep into real-world datasets to uncover actionable insights.

Professional Growth: Through managing this project, I aspire to gain a holistic understanding of how data-driven strategies are executed in business settings, enhancing my ability to lead and innovate.

Community Contribution: By documenting and sharing this journey, I hope to help others in the data science community. I expect to learn valuable lessons from the challenges and solutions we encounter along the way.

Setting the Stage

As the leaves begin to fall in vibrant New York City, our story kicks off in the iconic main building of The Car Insurance Company, TCIC. What starts as a typical autumn day soon leads to an unexpected challenge that sets the direction for our project. This series will guide you through a crafted scenario. We plan to mirror the real-life complexities of business intelligence and data analysis.

The Challenge

In a pivotal meeting with TCIC’s head of Underwriting, Tom Hank, a challenge is laid before us:

Analyze the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on driving behaviors in NYC and rethink our insurance premium strategies.

We will leverage big data to draw meaningful conclusions that will influence future business decisions.

Why Follow This Series?

This series is designed for anyone interested in the intersection of data science and business strategy. Whether you are a student, a fellow data professional, or just curious about data analytics, you’ll find valuable insights into:
